Job Description  


The Nature's Bounty Co.'s Product Development Team is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Packaging Design & Development.  This role reports in to the global R&D organization and leads the creation, development and implementation of Packaging Innovation from Ideation/Concept through Commercialization and Launch of New Products. The primary focus of this position is to inspire and drive Packaging Innovation to enable our Franchise Teams to deliver their New Product launch plans, 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactively plans, designs, implements, analyzes, interprets and communicates consumer and customer-centric packaging design and development strategies, testing and findings throughout the project and pipeline lifecycle to lead and support department, project and Franchise team decisions.
  • Responsible for New Package fit, form, function, design for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging, including compatibility, consumer, ship and line trial testing, scale-up and start-up, as needed.
  • Identifies, evaluates and manages broad-based network of packaging design and development service providers, material/component suppliers and equipment technology partners to deliver on short and long term project, Franchise and Category goals, and ensures seamless integration with associated functions such as Product Formulation, Consumer Science, Brand, Art/Design, Procurement, Project Management and Quality. Develops and maintains strong partnerships that lead to Platform and Pipeline growth beyond initial projects.
  • Manages Packaging Design & Development project budget and provides input and recommendations on overall Innovation budget allocation and project prioritization. 
  • Provides direct management/supervision and project/platform guidance and coaching to Packaging/Sr. Packaging Engineers within the department.
  • Provides strong and effective documentation of all Packaging Design & Development activities from Ideation to post-Launch stages on New Products, and supports R&D Operations activities in Document & Specification Management content generation, approvals and workflow management. Generates new procedures and ways of working to ensure and maintain packaging leadership in the company and industry.
     

Qualifications  
  • 8 + years industrial experience in a supervisory/management role in Packaging Design & Development in the dietary supplement, consumer healthcare and/or Branded consumer packaged goods industry with continually increasing scope of responsibilities and demonstrated success
  • Must have experience working closely and jointly collaborating with consumer-facing and Commercial functions to support growth opportunities via innovation and renovation introductions to the marketplace.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently to identify partners and manage successful panel and/or consumer acceptability testing at external service providers domestically. Ability to travel to internal facing clients and team members on regular basis in greater NY/NJ are, and on occasion to other domestic/international sites.
  • BS, MS in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering or equivalent required. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Broad-based experience identifying, partnering with and managing external design and development service providers and supplier network.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in NPD/Stage Gate process from Ideation through Commercialization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to manage up and work productively with cross-functional peers in a collaborative team environment.
  • Works seamlessly in both a business and R&D environment with proven ability to deliver programs on time, on quality and within budget.
  • Excellent time, budget and project management and problem solving skills with proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD software. Rapid prototyping experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge, experience and application of packaging design validation and specification standards is essential.
  • Good understanding of universal design principles and application of knowledge to ownable designs is a plus.
