Job Description

The Controller is a key member of the management team who ensures all controllership objectives are met in support of the company’s business objectives.  This role will report to the Chief Accounting Officer and act as a change agent driving improved controls and efficiencies in all processes.  The Controller will lead a team of direct reports and oversee a team of 40+ colleagues across the accounting, treasury, and compliance functions.  Note that this role can be alternatively based in our Florham Park, NJ, office, with a high commitment to travel and work regularly and consistently in our Ronkonkoma, NY, office, where the team is based.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct the preparation and review of the Quarterly and annual filings and associated consolidated financial statements, footnotes, management's discussion and analysis and supporting schedules
  • Ensure that all filing deadlines are met and all regulatory and GAAP requirements are fulfilled
  • Evaluation of all significant accounting transactions, research and implementation of relevant accounting technical standards, and preparation of technical accounting memos supporting all accounting positions
  • Evaluation of all new accounting standards updates impacting financial reporting. Ensure that operational and design effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting is maintained
  • Oversee all aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
  • Ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with company policies, generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of all regular and ad hoc management reports
  • Interact regularly with the Audit Committee
  • Achieves the highest standards of performance for the team. 
  • Attracting strong talent, building a strong bench, and developing solid succession plans. 
  • Instilling a culture that emphasizes accountability and transparency among the team  
  • Leads and personally drives change and implement best practices

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience with a demonstrated track record of success at Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies of appropriate scale and complexity 
  • Public Accounting experience
  • Direct experience in an accounting leadership role with thorough and in-depth knowledge of GAAP and strong financial acumen
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Collaborative business partner with company and divisional leaders, adept at building cross-functional relationships to drive business results and provide oversight
  • Expert level knowledge in accounting rules and regulations and in the application of those rules and regulations to a wide range of business activities
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and personally driving change and implementing best practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make well-balanced business decisions in the best interest of the enterprise
  • Experience with AS400, Oracle Accounting systems a plus
  • Private Equity, High Growth, and / or IPO experience preferred
