Job Description  

The Nature's Bounty Co.'s Innovation R&D Team is currently recruiting for a Manager, Consumer Science.  This role will execute and implement an internal and external network & service provider strategy to provide the appropriate sensory and broader consumer science capabilities. This role will lead the execution for technical innovation programs and projects for the Company's Vitamin, Natural Health & Organic, and Sports & Active Nutrition portfolios.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide subject matter expertise of sensory science principles to new product development and cross-functional project teams, including providing guidance and recommendations of the appropriate use of descriptive, discrimination and acceptability methods to support and drive successful outcomes.
  • Provide communicates sensory and consumer science method, testing and findings to guide and support department, project and Franchise team decisions.
  • Identify and manage broad-based network of consumer science external service providers and partners to deliver on short and long term project, Franchise and Category goals, and ensures seamless integration with Insights and internal consumer science capabilities and competencies.
  • Translate product development and project team research needs and asks into actionable sensory and consumer science testing plans, actions and results. Develop consumer science functional strategy to support goals.
  • Manage Consumer Science project budget and provides input and recommendations on overall Innovation budget allocation and project prioritization.
  • Train and moderate custom internal and external panels tailored to specific project needs. Provide analysis of data to provide clear and actionable written recommendations to appropriate product development functional leaders, project and Franchise teams.
  • Provide strong and effective documentation of all Consumer Science activities from proposal to final recommendations, and supports R&D Operations activities in Document Management system design and implementation.
  • Ensure competitive advantage through foundational knowledge building and implementation of proprietary and differentiated consumer science methods and techniques.


Qualifications  

  • 5+ years industrial experience in a sensory or consumer science role in the dietary supplement, consumer healthcare and/or value-added consumer packaged goods industry with continually increasing scope of responsibilities and demonstrated success
  • Fundamental knowledge, experience and demonstrated accomplishments in application of wide range of sensory testing, methods and techniques to guide product development and innovation activities that lead to successful outcomes.
  • Experience in working closely and jointly collaborating with consumer-facing and commercial functions to support growth opportunities via innovation and renovation introductions to the marketplace.
  • Willing to travel frequently to identify partners and manage successful panel and/or consumer acceptability testing at external service providers domestically. 
  • BS, MS or PhD in Sensory or Food Science, Consumer Science, Psychology, Applied Statistics or equivalent required. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • In-depth working knowledge and direct experience of Sensory/Consumer Science and associated qualitative and quantitative methodologies and techniques.
  • Experience identifying, partnering with and managing external service providers.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in NPD/Stage Gate process from Idea through Commercialization and where consumer guidance testing fits into project lifecycle.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to manage up and work productively with cross-functional peers in a collaborative team environment.
  •  Excellent time, budget and project management skills with proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent projects.
