Job Description

The Domestic Corporate Transportation Manager his must be capable of building highly effective and collaborative working relations at all levels of the organization including Warehouse & Distribution, Procurement, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing to create a timely and cost-effective domestic transportation logistical flow.  Responsible for transportation cost and service (on-time delivery) for outbound, intracompany, and inbound transportation movements hauled by LTL, truckload and intermodal carriers.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary leader of transportation activity supporting the movement of product and materials between NBTY DC's, warehouses, 3PLs, and outside vendors.  Plan, direct, optimize and lead overall improvement of on-time shipment and transportation OTIF score performance for The Nature's Bounty Co. for outbound shipments.  Drive continuous improvement practices ensuring alignment with corporate and division/department master plan goals.

  • Guide relationships with transportation service providers and brokers to maintain and grow a comprehensive and efficient transportation network.  Recommend carrier base and negotiate rates for LTL, Truckload and Intermodal rates for dry and reefer carriage through RFP's, spot market pricing, and direct negotiation. 

  • Manage TMS configuration activities and transportation related data integrity such as carrier set up, route maintenance, rate structures, transit times, etc. in the Oracle Transportation Management system.  Manages and maintains the routing guide, while ensuring vendor and supplier compliance to carrier selections.

  • Manage financial analysis and reporting for 'cost to serve',  transportation budget, forecast & expenses, and accurals.

  • Manage all freight claims with carriers in a timely manner to ensure maximum recovery.

  • Manage KPI reporting, e.g. OTIF, cost per lb., fuel trend, DAT FTL.

  •  Lead, manage and develop staff associates.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, International Business or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years experience managing domestic transportation for a CPG/food type industry accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Hazardous materials training in 49CFRtransportation regulations preferred.
  • 1+ years transportation management system experience, Oracle TMS preferred.
  • Management, analytical thinking, decision making and negotiating skills required.
  • Continuous efficiency improvement mindset that promotes high quality service delivery required.
  • Capable of leveraging strategic alliances across functions and with critical stakeholders.
  • Results oriented; compares measured results to standards and takes action to close gaps.
