Job Description

The Package Production Artist is responsible for producing and managing label artwork for multiple domestic, international and private brands leveraging a strong comprehension of visual communication, color and typography and embracing and responding to instruction from designers, regulatory and brand teams to complete label projects.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Create new printed packaging based on specific brand style guides.
  • Create graphics, designs, concepts, logos and sample layouts as needed based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts.
  • Ensure brand consistencies while maintaining regulatory content and verifying packaging functionality.
  • Regularly monitor and respond to emails with reference to up-dates, corrections, revisions, approvals, regulations, and registrations.
  • Review printer proofs to ensure content and accuracy.
  • Maintain efficient workflow procedures and meet accuracy requirements.
  • Confer with supervisor as needed to discuss and determine layout design, and review final layouts.
  • Coordinate and manage label projects to adhere to production schedules and deadlines.
  • Enter printed packaging specifications in an Oracle driven data hub.
  • Process and prioritize incoming items as assigned daily.
  • Independently execute technical editing as needed for electronic files using various graphic programs.
  • Maintain live working mechanicals, PDF’s and hard copy files.
  • Deduce and resolve issues that arise relating to packaging production. 
  • Keep project assets organized and up to date.
  • Work with outside creative agencies, pre-press, regulatory, design teams, brand and quality to produce print ready art files.
  • Partner with third party procurement teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain accuracy on all packaging files so that components flow efficiently and effectively.
  • •Strictly follow the department’s standard operating procedures. 
  • May assist with ordering labeling components.
  • Confer with partners with regards to pricing and vendor assignment as needed.
  • Support the internal design teams as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Graphic Arts/Design field preferred
  • 5+ years related experience as Graphic Artist or Designer
  • Experience with pre-press and production processes for digital, flexo and offset printing
  • Knowledge of domestic labeling regulations and standards set by FDA/USDA
  • Awareness of international labeling requirement a Plus
  • Familiarity with Oracle and AS400 a plus
  • Software knowledge: CS6Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Quark and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to take art direction and constructive feedback while collaborating in a team environment
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation and proofing skills are required
  • Knowledge of the packaging industry as it relates to production art files
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills; ability to prioritize, problem solve and juggle multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Creative thinker and team player who understands the importance of stellar design and branding
