Job Description

The Project Specialist, R&D Operations, is responsible for assisting project managers and leaders with cross-functional new product development (NPD) projects and/or technical/R&D led projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • The initiation, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and close-out of projects that drive short and medium term profitable growth across all  Brands and Platforms.
  • Learn and apply project management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to plan, manage and deliver projects on-time, on-quality and on-budget from idea/concept through launch and project close-out.
  • Define project plan/scope with cross-functional team, and create/manage master project timeline.
  • Assess project risks and work with manager to ensure all required activities/critical path tasks and resources are aligned with agreed-to project deliverables.
  • Schedule and lead regular project team meetings. 
  • Take and distribute notes and ensure follow up is complete on open action items.
  • Assist with managing projects through the Stage-Gate product innovation process. 
  • Develop project resource plans, obtain buy in from cross functional leaders and team members.
  • Develop his/her portfolio management expertise in establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), project scoring/valuation, project/resource prioritization and implementing relevant dashboards to measure progress against project/pipeline goals and objectives.


  • 1-3 years of experience working in a project support role
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree is required in Sciences, Engineering, Business or Operations Management
  • Experience working with Stage-Gate product innovation processes and consumer packaged goods projects is preferred
  • Strong planning and organizational skills are required
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, teams and management at all levels within the organization is required
  • Demonstrated excellence as a team player
  • Working knowledge of a Stage-Gate process as contributor is preferred
  • Product lifecycle management (PLM) system knowledge is preferred
  • Project management using Microsoft Project or comparable web-based tools is preferred
