Job Description  

Our Product Development Team is currently recruiting for a Sr. Packaging Engineer!  This role will be responsible for the execution of innovative package solutions to fuel growth  for  The Nature's Bounty Co.  The Senior Packaging Engineer role provides dynamic technical support, leadership, and innovation from inception through launch of products across our Supplement and Active Nutrition portfolios.  Package Engineering & Innovation works with business partners to develop and launch packaging solutions to deliver on customer and consumer expectations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop and commercialize packaging solutions and optimizations that meet customer, consumer and operational needs.
  • Serve as technical packaging leader on cross functional project teams.
  • Conduct bench work and pilot scale tests.
  • Help build and maintain intellectual property landscape with regards to packaging.
  • Travel as needed to perform line trials, meet with suppliers, attend trade shows, commercialize packaging components and provide technical support at the manufacturing plants.
  • Participate in industry organizations and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, trends and best practices.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems that arise.
  • Present ideas and recommendations to various functions within the organization.
  • Drive and implement continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Manage assigned workload through effective time management, planning, and coordination of projects to assure required deadlines are met.
  • Aggressively drive and identify gross margin improvement projects through the optimization of primary and secondary package design / re-design. Report cost savings initiatives on packaging related projects.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses to support continuous improvement programs in the manufacturing processes through the redesign of packaging components.
  • Maintain knowledge of the developments and trends in packaging for possible applications with the company’s present and future products.
  • Create and revise packaging specifications, bill of materials, pallet patterns and testing protocols to support manufacturing.
  • Understand basic supplier manufacturing processes including plastic molding, flexible materials and secondary carton / corrugate.
  • Provide technical expertise to Quality Assurance to solve packaging related quality issues.
  • Help establish and/or refine Packaging Engineering & Innovation processes and SOP’s.

Qualifications  
  • 7-13 years in Package Engineering Innovation for Consumer Goods and/or Nutraceutical products.
  • Bachelor’s required in Packaging Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated skill of working on project teams to drive results in a fast paced environment.
  • Highly organized, self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt well to change and able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for innovation.
  • Broad understanding of the fundamentals of Packaging Development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with various levels of an organization.
  • Sense of urgency to solve problems and complete tasks; looks beyond obvious and seeks input from multiple sources.
  • Considers options and willingness to carry parallel paths forward early in project.
  • Ability and desire to cooperate, collaborate and partner with others.
  •  Demonstrates transparency, openness and integrity when working with others.
  • Effectively adjusts to changes and deals effectively with uncertainties in the work environment.
  • Ability to generate new and valuable ideas and solutions to difficult problems.
  • Advanced PC skills: Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Specifications systems and TOPS/CAPE. Experience with Microsoft Project or similar software desired. AutoCad experience a plus. Ability to learn Oracle based programs.
