Job Description

The Senior Plant Engineer will serve as a technical resource on improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Facility and Equipment Safety, Quality and Productivity and Cost Savings projects.  The Senior Engineer will evaluate and recommend improvements to existing processes and facilities to improve all plant metrics based on specific area of expertise. In addition, they will execute small Capital projects as necessary for OEE improvements and contribute to the development of peers and organization through OEE, Lean and TPM based tools.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support production and packaging facilities with technical leadership and facilitation of Lean, TPM or 6σ tools
  • Make recommendations and execute the improvement of equipment and processes
  • Create mass balances, determine bottlenecks and improve throughput on existing manufacturing and packaging systems
  • Develop and execute raw and packaging material testing procedures
  • With support from Corporate Engineering, execute tactical capital investment projects using all TPM based Early Management Tools
  • Determine specifications for new and existing products by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards
  • Completing technical studies on new and existing systems and products
  • Preparing cost estimates on new and existing systems and products
  • Participate in the development of new project startup planning with plant personnel to identify all additional labor requirements, scrap produced and start up inefficiencies
  • Partner with EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) on safety and ergonomic requirements to all equipment and layouts
  • Lead the Capital Planning Process for the site/campus with Corporate Engineering
  • Collaborate with other sites/campuses on Best Practices
  • Communicate internally and with all customers to update statuses


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Plant Engineering experience
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the area of Food or Pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging
  • Knowledge of Lean, TPM, TQM, 6σ or other OEE Improvement techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to produce mass balances for Manufacturing and Packaging systems
  • Knowledge in the area of Overall Equipment Effectiveness, its calculation and methods for improvement including Lean, TPM or 6σ tools
  • Ability to train others on OEE, Lean, TPM or 6σ tools
  • Capital Management Skills including an understanding of the Capital Planning
  • Testing Management Skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office® Product Skills, including Microsoft Project®
  • Ability to review and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
