Job Description

The VP of Global Accounting is a key member of the top management team who leads the global accounting function responsible for creating and driving accounting processes, policies, controls, and reporting that ensures all controllership objectives are met in support of the company’s business objectives.  This role will report to the CFO and act as a Change Agent driving efficiencies in all processes.  The VP Global Accounting will lead a team across the accounting, controller & treasury, and compliance functions.  NOTE:  the VP can be based in Ronkonkoma, NY, or Florham Park, NJ.

Major Responsibilities

  • Strategic partner.  Serve as a key member of the finance management team in developing and implementing business plans, including organic growth, new markets, efficiency/cost cutting, partnerships, M&A /integrations, and divestures.  Acts as a thought leader by providing analytical insight and perspective to the CEO, CFO and operating management.  Partner in a collaborative way with company leaders to monitor and drive performance and to provide financial oversight.
  • Stewardship.  Supervise the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, including analysis of performance, variance and cash flow to the strictest standards of accounting and the law.  Ensure the fiscal integrity of the company’s business through the enhancement and management of accounting systems and controls.  Monitor controls and ensure a strong control environment.
  • Team leader.  Provide strong leadership in the recruitment, training and development of top quality financial talent to ensure the finance organization has a high level of performance and productivity.  Continually cultivate finance and other functions to ensure cost effective achievement of goals and objectives.  Participate in continuing education programs, keeping skills, knowledge and personal networks fresh.

 Additional responsibilities include:

  • Builds and strengthens financial systems and process enhancements and drive improvements throughout the accounting organization
  • Oversees all general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, treasury, tax and fixed asset activities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions and compliance with internal policies
  • Manage all monthly, quarterly and year-end closings including year-end audit and the preparation of consolidated financial statements
  • Responsible for all technical accounting including revenue recognition, implementation of new standards and compliance with all relevant existing standards
  • Oversee cash management activities in conjunction with Controller
  • Identify, track and report on key financial and non-financial performance metrics; work with the team to analyze trends and develop/implement changes to drive improvements
  • Lead and support value creation initiatives and special projects to drive change / transformation
  • Partner with Accounting and divisional FP&A team to ensure accurate reported results and forecasts and provide management with timely financial information for effective strategic decision making
  • Capable of challenging senior and line management in a constructive, balanced way offering solutions and fresh thinking
  • Proven ability to partner with operating teams to drive and monitor performance and develop strategic plans
  • Direct experience in a finance leadership role with demonstrated expertise in GAAP accounting and finance analysis
  • History of setting and achieving the highest standards of performance for the team. Recognized for attracting strong talent, building a strong bench, and developing a successor. Instills a culture that emphasizes accountability and transparency among the finance team 
  • Work closely with external Auditors to support successful quarterly and fiscal year-end audit work.
  • Lead and support ad hoc special projects as required

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial planning, analysis and reporting experience with a demonstrated track record of success at CPG Companies of appropriate scale and complexity
  • Experience with trade promotion management, manufacturing / distribution, treasury, and tax
  • Expert level knowledge in accounting rules and regulations and in the application of those rules and regulations to a wide range of business activities
  • Experience with active management of the P&L, including driving efficiency, zero based budgeting, or earnings optimization initiatives
  • General financial “athlete” – “player-coach” with strong financial acumen and detail orientation
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and personally driving change and implementing best practices
  • A proven leader; known for the ability to develop, motivate and build strong financial teams that achieve superior levels of performance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative business partner with company and divisional leaders, adept at building cross-functional relationships to drive business results and provide financial oversight
  • Experience with Private Equity exit transactions (Private and/or IPO) would be a strong plus
  • M&A experience would be a plus
  • Experience with AS400, Oracle Accounting systems a plus 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance required
  • MBA preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
  • Travel up to 10%
